Fun Haven on Sunday was an awesome time of bonding over several activities including games and the word, every session of the service was exciting and exhilarating.Pastor took a few minutes to prepare us to receive the word, she shared from 1 Corinthians 14:16 where she pointed out that the expectation whenever we come to church is that we understand what is being said and respond to it, we were reminded of the parable of the sower where Jesus taught that for those who do not understand the word, Satan comes immediately and steals the word that was sown in their heart, while those that understand the word are those that bring forth fruits, this places so much importance on the need to pay attention to and to be determined to understand the word we hear in church if we are to bring forth fruits, Pastor went on to emphasize the importance of responding to the word, according to that verse, the purpose of understanding the word is to be able to respond showing how important our response to the word is, Pastor taught us how to respond to the word by affirming it to be so concerning us. Pastor Kola then began to teach on the subject of thanksgiving as we have been learning throughout the month, he taught us to thank God because He calls us and sees us as his friends according to the words of Jesus in John 15:15, we learnt that it is possible for a man to be identified as a friend of God as demonstrated in the life of Abraham, God called Abraham his friend and this relationship played out when God intended to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, God had to make his intentions known to Abraham based on the relationship they had who in turn took it upon himself to intercede on behalf of the city and sought to influence God’s decision, indeed, to the extent that he interceded, God was willing to do what he asked. We learnt that God has brought us to this same position of influence with him, we have been called to the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ as the word tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:9, now beyond being sons of God, he has put us in a place where we can be intimate with him, he wants to show us his plans for our lives and our future, he wants to show us things before they happen so we can work together with him to avert them or to bring them to be as the case may be, what a privilege we have in God, we were challenged to respond to this call by giving God our time and our attention, placing him as our priority and cultivating that friendship that he desires of us, and throughout the month and beyond, to give God thanks because he calls us friends.
