It’s our year of New Beginnings and one of God’s promises to us this year is that we would experience new beginnings in our walk with him, during the last Sunday service, Pastor began to help us understand that we have a part to play when we listen to the word, God tells us something and we have to do something in response, and so having told us that it’s our year of New Beginnings, we have our part to play in ensuring that this becomes our reality.
Pastor reminded us that we are co-labourers with God, he is constantly working and so we should always be working too, he has given us his word, we must use the word and do something with it, new beginnings in our walk with God means that there are new things God wants us to see and to experience, so one thing we can do to ensure this is to analyse our walk with him, to look back at the former and check if there are things we need to change or things we need to stop, to check if it has been good enough or if otherwise, to find out what we need to do to improve on it and make it better, Pastor charged us to work on being better in our walk with God by deliberately and consistently fanning the flame.
Pastor went on to read from Amos 3:3,
“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”
To walk with God, we have to agree with him; his thoughts, his opinions and his
principles, we need to know what he is saying and then agree with Him. Jesus said to some, “Why do you call me Lord when you do not do what I say” because there are those who claim to know and love God but don’t even know what he is saying or what he wants well enough to even be able to do it, Pastor made us understand that we cannot claim to love the Lord and not do his will and we can’t do his will without knowing it and so to improve in our walk with God, we have to accept that there are things that we think about life that needs to change and we have to begin to walk with the word of God by renewing our mind with the word, as we do so, the word of God begins to minister to us, when we are in a situation and unsure of what to do, that word of God that we have studied and imbibed will come to us and give us direction.
Pastor admonished us to determine to know God’s word so well this year so that he can talk to us through his word, to choose to spend time in the word
and to know God’s word for ourselves because when everything else is gone, only the word of God will remain.
Sunday service was such a blessed opportunity to be inspired to a better walk with God through the word of God. Hallelujah!
