It’s still our glorious month of thanksgiving and as we have been gaining insight on several things to thank God for during the past weeks, this Sunday’s message was even more insightful. Pastor taught us to thank God for the people in our life, she charged us to learn from God, to be like him and to prioritise the things that he prioritises, we saw that even though God knows the world and all of it’s glory, his purpose for sending his son when he did was for none of those things, neither the trees nor gold nor animals but for the people in the world, in Acts 7:48-50, we saw God’s declaration that no physical building can ever be good enough for him to dwell in as a temple because his hands made all these things, however, he has chosen us as his people and to be his temple as we are told in 2 Corinthians 6:16, this proves that God is not concerned for things or buildings, he is only interested in people and we saw this demonstrated in the Bible, Solomon had built a very magnificent temple for God, but when they sinned, God did not hesitate to sanction it’s destruction because it meant nothing to him, Pastor further established this truth by reading from 1 Corinthians 9:9 where Apostle Paul recalled Moses’ instruction concerning caring for the oxen that that treads the corn and where he showed that the instruction was really for our sakes because God does not care about the oxen as he cares about us. We learnt that when God is going to bless you, he uses those that know you hence why we should always be thankful for them, Pastor also charged us not to let people change us nor allow any terrible experiences with some people make us hard towards others, the Bible admonishes us in Ephesians 4:32 to be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving others as God has forgiven us in Christ Jesus. We learnt to thank God for our parents and siblings, for our leaders in church who consistently check up on us and our spiritual participation, the Bible charges us in Galatians 6:9-10 to not be weary in well doing but to always ensure to do good to all men especially those that are of the household of faith, we saw Jesus’ words in Matthew 25:31-46 concerning the sheep and the goats on his right and left, we saw how that he is fully identified with even the very least Christian and so we should always thank God for them and treat them right, we learnt to thank God for our neighbours and friends, concious that they are not in our lives by mistake but to be influenced and to be blessed by us, we also learnt to thank God for our bosses and subordinates and that God expects us to honour, serve them and treat them well respectively as we would do the Lord recognising that he placed them in our lives for a reason.
