We’ve gotten off to a great start in the glorious year of New Beginnings and every Sunday in this month of January, we are learning on the subject of Healing.

This Sunday, Pastor began by sharing some insights from the story of the blind man in John 9 whom Jesus healed, the disciples saw this man who had been blind from birth and began to wonder whether it was him or his parents that sinned for that to have happened, it showed the mindset they had that for anyone to experience evil, it must be linked to a sin they had committed but this man couldn’t have sinned before he was born so that was definitely not the case.

Pastor showed us that truly, there are people in the word who got into trouble because of sin, and we can tell because their healing came with forgiveness of their sin or an instruction to sin no more, examples are the lame man at the pool of Bethesda and the paralysed man who was let down to Jesus through the roof, however, she made us understand that this is not always the case, it is possible to have done no wrong and something bad still happens, this is because we have an adversary who is strongly against us, he doesn’t need a reason to afflict anyone, he does it every chance he gets. Pastor taught us that faithfulness and service to God are good but neither of them will replace the faith that we need to deal with the devil when he comes lurking around.

The word of God shows us what our response should be, he tells us in 1 Peter 5:7-8 to be sober and vigilant, to be aware that the devil goes about seeking whom to devour and he teaches us to resist him while being steadfast in faith. Pastor showed us that even if we sin, it is not grounds for the devil to afflict us, we can only sin against God, never against the devil and God is able to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness, we saw that Satan is a transgressor who only seeks to take advantage of us but we must learn to resist him and not give him a chance.

We saw in the word different people who were afflicted with sickness caused by the presence of a demon and once the devil was cast out, they became completely well, one example that stood out was that of woman bent over and bound for 18 years, Jesus knew that it was caused by a spirit of infirmity and once he spoke the word, she was loosed and made free, another was a dumb man who began to speak immediately Jesus cast out the devil.

Pastor further showed us how much Jesus wants us to be well, during his arrest, Peter cut off the right ear of one of those who came to arrest Jesus, rather than ignore it seeing they were against him, Jesus healed the man and restored his ear, Pastor showed us that if Jesus would heal someone who had come to arrest him, how much more we who love, worship and serve him.

Pastor rounded off the service by ministering to as many who required healing in their bodies through several words of knowledge, calling out cases and declaring them healed in the name of Jesus.
