It’s still our month of Radical Preaching and once again, during the Sunday service, we were inspired by the word of God to live our lives as radical preachers of the gospel.
Pastor began by debunking the popular saying that as Christians, we can preach the gospel with our lifestyle using words only when necessary, she let us understand that it may sound spiritual and smart but that does not make it spiritual nor sound, we must measure any such thoughts against the words of Jesus who is our standard and he instructed us to preach the gospel using words, she explained that it is not enough to think our life will convince them, we have to tell them what the life is about, she also emphasised to us that seeing does not impart faith, only hearing does.
Pastor went on to prove from the word that visions alone will not suffice to leading anyone to salvation, not even an appearance of Jesus, Jesus himself emphasised preaching, the Apostle Paul also emphasised preaching over visions even though a vision was part of his conversion experience, an angel of God appeared to Peter and Cornelius on separate occasions and in both occasions, they pointed to words as the means whereby men can be saved; Pastor admonished us to preach the gospel to all rather than waste time hoping Jesus would appear to them knowing that the words we speak would impart faith to them and cause them to receive salvation.
We saw how the Apostle Paul tried to convince the Jews at Jerusalem to believe the gospel by sharing his encounter with Jesus, their response to this was to declare him unfit to live and attempt to kill him proving that such sharing of stories and experiences don’t convince people, only the gospel is necessary.
Pastor moved on to answering the question of why things grow old and spoil, we were reminded that death entered the world through sin and passed upon all men to the extent that death reigned everywhere, we saw in the word that death is however an enemy of God and his plan is that the time would come that there would be no death, it is for this reason that he sent Jesus to initiate that plan and Jesus through death has delivered us from the fear of death, now we can live our lives without recourse to being affected by death in any way.
We learnt that beyond delivering us from death, he brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, now the word of God shows us that we who have received abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign much more than death has, God expects us to influence people with the gospel much more than death has affected them, if death can take everybody in a bus through an accident, then we can preach the gospel in that bus and get everyone saved, that’s how we reign more than death has. Pastor charged us not to trade anything for the gospel, to preach the gospel to everyone irrespective of how we feel they might respond or what we may seem to stand to lose by doing so.
