SUED service was glorious as we were once again energised by the word of God. Pastor enlightened us on the miracle working ability we possess as Christians. We were reminded that as Christians, when we got born again, we received and began to live by the divine life, the same life that God has and lives by. The Christian who is not conscious of this will live all of his life as an ordinary man whereas he has the divine life, which is extraordinary.
Pastor showed us from the scriptures how that belonging to the family of God automatically gives us access to his name, as it also becomes our name;
“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named” Ephesians 3:14-15
She buttressed this point with an example of how Peter used the name of Jesus to restore a crippled man in Acts 3:6, “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” She further illustrated how rebellious spirits may refuse to submit to the name but it is our duty to put them in their place by casting them out. We learnt that the Christian has not just the life of God, he has the Spirit of God living in him and he is also named with the name of God, therefore when he shows up, God does not need to show up anymore.
Pastor showed us some further truths in Ephesians 3:16, “That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;” In this spirit inspired prayer, we are made to see how God’s focus is that we are strengthened with might. Pastor taught us that the word “might” comes from the word “dunamis” which when translated means “miracle working ability”. As a Christian, rather than get worried about challenges that confront us, we ought to focus on the miracle working ability we possess. By walking in the consciousness of this miracle working ability, while others are waiting for a miracle, we can work out the miracle we desire in any situation. Our greatest example, Jesus was always conscious that he possessed this miracle working ability. Once, he met a man at the pool of Bethesda who had been lame for 38 years, and asked him “… Wilt thou be made whole?” John 5:6
This question came out of his consciousness that he could do something about this man’s situation and despite the man’s excuses, he told him “…Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.” John 5:8, and the man was made whole.
In concluding the sermon, Pastor taught us that this power at work in us gives us unlimited ability such that whatever we desire or can think of, all we need to do is bring forth the ability and we can have much more than we imagine.
Ephesians 3:20 says “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us”
There is tremendous power at work in every believer. There is divine ability in every believer; an ability that can help others and that can change situations. Just like Jesus used the ability he had to change situations and give hope to others, we have the same ability and we can use it to help others, to heal the sick and enable them recover as affirmed by the very words of Jesus in Mark 16:18, “….they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover”. We are not the sick requiring healing, the divine ability we have quenches any traces of sickness and enables us to help others.
In strengthening this ability, Pastor instructed us to give time to speaking in tongues because “He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself” 1 Corinthians 14:4. In Acts 9:40, Peter spent time praying, strengthening himself in this divine ability and raised Dorcas up from the dead. This is an example worthy of emulation, we dedicate ourselves to speaking in tongues consistently, building up ourselves and positioning ourselves to help others as we manifest God’s ability inside of us.
