Halleluyah! We were gloriously blessed by the word of God taught in the last Sunday service, Pastor began by sharing on the importance of water baptism as the next thing to be done upon hearing the gospel and receiving salvation just as Jesus commanded, she clarified some of Apostle Paul’s statements in 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 which some have misconstrued and used as a case against water baptism, making us understand from those verses that Paul himself baptised people and was in no way speaking less of baptism, she reminded us that baptism is a symbol of our separation from the world and our identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
She began to teach on the benefit of living after the spirit against living after the flesh, we learnt from Romans 8:5 that there are those who even though Christians still live after the flesh, paying attention to the desires of the flesh and responding accordingly while there are those who mind the things of the Spirit, whose desires are in line with what with the Spirit wants, we are then told the results that accrue to both groups, those that are carnally minded will experience death while those that are spiritually minded will experience life and peace. Pastor charged us to train ourselves to be spiritually minded, to have the right response to situations, to mind what gets our attention and to consciously channel our desires in the right direction, we learnt that the reason why the fleshly minded will experience death is because they are not subject to the law of God and are therefore in enmity with God, this is why we must learn to agree with God at all times.
Pastor further showed us in the scriptures that the same spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in us and his purpose in us is to quickens our mortal bodies, because of this, the word tells us that we have no obligation to live according to the human nature, instead, we are instructed to put to death the transactions of the body through the Spirit that indwells us. Pastor charged us to constantly and stubbornly insist on the word of God refusing to live our lives based on what we see, hear or feel instead to live only based on what the word of God tells us.
