Last Sunday service was another awesome time learning from Jesus as we have been doing throughout the month of November.

Pastor began to show us how Peter progressed from meeting Jesus through his brother, Andrew to becoming a member of Jesus’ closest circle, we saw in the word that for three years after Peter forsook all and followed Jesus, he lived with Jesus in the same house, travelled with him everywhere and was with him in most of his private moments, as such, if there was anyone who really knew Jesus well enough, that person would be Peter and in 1 Peter 2:21-23, he told us his conclusion from observing the life of Jesus, he emphatically stated that in all those years he lived and walked with him, Jesus did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth and this is the example he left for us to follow.

Pastor explained that as long as a person thinks it is not possible to live a righteous life, it will never be their experience, instead, it will be a struggle to live that life, the word of God shows us however that it is possible.

We learnt from Ephesians 5:1-4, where we are admonished to imitate Jesus and the first instruction we are given is to walk in love, the next instruction given after that concerns living the sanctified life, he says fornication, uncleanness, filthiness and jesting should not be named among us.

We went on to see God’s solution to things that may be causing us to walk in unrighteousness, in Matthew 18:7-8, he says offences are bound to come and goes on to admonish us to cut off every source of offence, Pastor charged us to block off friends whose actions or communications negatively affect our walk of righteousness, to cut off friends who bring doubt and unbelief to distract us in our walk of faith because it is better to lose such friends than for our walk with God to be rendered ineffective.

Pastor charged us to not judge our walk with God with the metrics of another person’s life; that another Christian is doing something does not make it right, we ought to judge our walk with God with his word, she counselled us not to allow ourselves to become liberal because we see others around us living liberally.

We learnt from the parables of Jesus in Matthew 13:24-30 and its interpretation in verses 36-42 that even in God’s kingdom, there are those who can be sources of offence, they claim to be Christians but live contrary to the example Jesus left for us, people who are Christians but friends of the world, Pastor urged us to shun such folks knowing fully well the warning in God’s word that friendship with the world is enmity with God.

Pastor charged us to live sincere lives, not as hypocrites, deceiving ourselves by listening to only words that justify our actions thereby searing our conscience, she taught us to fight to ensure that nothing and no one takes us off the path on our walk of righteousness, to live our lives without sin and guile, to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers and to flee fornication just as we are instructed in the word of God.
