It’s the last Sunday in the month of June and Sunday service was an awesome wrap to what has been a fulfilling first half of the year. Pastor gave an inspiring charge from Matthew 13:9-16 teaching us what happens when we listen to and understand God’s word, we saw that there are those who in fulfilling the prophecy given in the word of God do not see, hear or understand what is being taught and so they leave the same way they came with no impact of the word of God on their life or situation but we saw that anytime such a person decides to give sufficient attention to the word, he has immediately positioned himself to be changed and to be healed, we learnt this practically from the experience of the lame man in Lystra who by paying attention to the word from Paul received his healing, with this Pastor charged us to listen and pay full attention to the word of God knowing that we would be changed as a result. Pastor Kola thereafter gave the teaching of the day, he began by calling to remembrance that when we got born again, everything changed and God now sees us differently, he calls us his ministers of reconciliation and sees us as his co-labourers, we learnt that God seeks to work with us to ensure that his work on earth is done, we also learnt from the parable of the rich fool that it is possible to be rich on the earth and yet not rich towards God, we saw in the word that God wants us to put him first even in the administration of our finances knowing that we no longer belong to ourselves neither do we live unto ourselves, we have been bought with a price and now, we belong to him. We learnt from the biblical story of the widow who gave her all compared to many others who gave out of their abundance and how God commended her giving, we learnt that in our training unto righteousness, the Spirit of God would lead us to give from time to time and we ought to respond to this in obedience, we also learnt from the Macedonian church, they abounded in their liberality inspite of the afflictions and deep poverty they faced, we were inspired to sow bountifully and to do so cheerfully, we saw in Matthew 25: 28-29 that everyone in fact has something to give, even those who think they do not have, and only those who give acknowledge that they indeed have and would be given more in abundance, in all, we were inspired to be effective partners with God, deliberate about financing his work with our resources.
