Welcome to a new month. This month, we will be listening to a series of messages on Spiritual Understanding and during the last Sunday service, Pastor shared with us her expectation that by the end of this month, our desire for spiritual understanding would have greatly increased.
Pastor took us through the scriptures showing us in John 20:21-23, Luke 24:45 and Job 32:8 how Jesus by blowing on his disciples opened their understanding to the scriptures, we went on to see in Luke 24:44-46 that his desire was that they would understand the things that were written concerning his death, burial and resurrection. Throughout their time of walking with him, he had tried to communicate these things to them but they did not understand that he had to die and why he had to die and so they did not respond rightly. We saw in Jesus’ prayer to the Father in John 17:12 his passion to ensure that none of his disciples were lost and he expressed this passion at his arrest where he negotiated for the release of his disciples after offering himself to be taken away, the plan was that inspite of his death and ressurection, his disciples would be free to go on preaching the good news, but one man who lacked spiritual understanding almost ruined it all by his actions. Peter, not understanding that Jesus had to die according to the will of God tried to defend him by cutting off the ear of one of the high priest’s servants, Jesus deescalated the situation by immediately healing the man and restoring his ear, if he hadn’t, the disciples would have either being killed in combat or declared as fugitives and violent persons and this would have ruined God’s plan for the spread of the gospel through them. Pastor emphasised the need for spiritual understanding in making the right choices and doing the right things even as she led us to pray that we would be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding in accordance with Colossians 1:12.
Pastor proceeded into the second phase of the message where she showed us lessons from the life of Lot. Lot became wealthy by reason of his association with Abraham but rather than recognise and manage the relationship well, he began to be big in his own eyes and he chose to leave his uncle rather than call for peace when his servants began to strive with his uncle’s servant. Even after he and his family together with all their goods were kidnapped from Sodom and he was rescued by the same Abraham, he didn’t get the message, he chose to stay on in Sodom until he eventually lost everything including his wife and ended up in a cave, we saw clearly from his story that his relationship with Abraham was ordained by God and he was meant to stay rather than leave. Pastor charged us on the need to know that relationships are God’s idea and right from when we are born into this world, he set us in various relationships, we must learn to identify supernatural relationships and manage them wisely while also staying away from relationships that will distract us from our path of destiny, she reminded us that when God wants to bless us, he will use people and the extent to which we have handled our relationships with the people God has brought into our lives will determine how much he can use them for us, with that, Pastor led us in another round of prayers to the end that we would learn to recognise and wisely manage the relationships that God has ordained for us.
The word of God came to us in simplicity and we were tremendously blessed by it. Glory to God!
