What an awesome month it has been, we have been tremendously blessed and improved in all of our services this month and it’s refreshing to know that this is just the beginning of much more to come.

Pastor rounded off the series she had been teaching on from the beginning of the month,

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us” Hebrews 12:1

God expects us to run the race before us with patience, just as there is a time difference between the conception and delivery of a child, some things would have to take time for their complete actualisation, Pastor illustrated this with an example of two men building on different foundations, one on sand and the other on a rock, the man who builds on the rock would take more time than the one who builds on the sand but that time is necessary for a structure that would stand the test of challenges, Pastor made us understand that patience doesn’t mean there is a problem, it only means time is required for that thing to happen.

Pastor showed us that many people out of haste entertain the tendency to want to work out God’s plan for him instead of waiting and being patient for it to happen his way and in his timing, she showed us the example of Abraham and Sarah, having received God’s promise that Abraham would have a son, Sarah eventually concluded that it would be through her maid that he would have a son even though God said nothing of the sort, she gave her maid to Abraham as a wife and the maid conceived and bore a son, the result of Sarah trying to work things out for God was that Ishmael was begotten, and that came with highly unpleasant consequences, we also saw that God did not recognise Ishmael as a seed of Abraham, referring to Isaac as Abraham’s only son.

We learnt that whatever plans or calculations you do on your own may work out but the future consequence will be unpleasant, we also learnt that God does not recognise anything that is not done through his word and so they only count as wasted efforts.

“Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.” Romans 9:7-8

God doesn’t recognise things gotten outside of his word, everything gotten through the flesh, through mental calculations or carnal observations mean nothing to him, he only considers the things that we get through the promise of his word.

We went further to look at the story of Isaac, Rebekah and their two sons, God’s word came concerning them at their birth and Rebekah had no business trying to bring about the fulfilment of what God had said but she chose to be carnal and worked hard to ensure things went in the direction of what God had said, she seemingly got what she wanted but the consequences were unpleasant, Jacob had to run away for his life and Rebecca never saw him again till her death, her actions also led to years of enmity between Jacob and Esau and between their seed, even future generations just because she was intent on helping God rather than exhibit patience.

We learnt that things might not be happening as fast for us as they are happening for others but God does not want us bothered about that, he wants us to run with patience. He says in his word that;

“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” James 1:4

When we walk with patience, everything will turn out perfect but when we try to help God in the manner of Sarah and Rebekah did, then we muddle things up and lose out of God’s best.
