“And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
Galatians 5:24
Here is a hack:
“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16
He expects you to starve off any opportunity to walk in the flesh and emphatically tells you to do so by walking in the spirit. If you walk in the spirit, he says, you SHALL NOT fulfil the lust of the flesh, and the good news is, he explains clearly what he means and how you ought to go about it.
These are desires of the flesh he says, as a Christian, you can do without:
“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like…” Galatians 5:19-21
And he says, you can do that if you consciously decide to walk in love. Walking in love would set you on a path of righteousness:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
He goes ahead and expatiates such love expressions, but primarily the word has given you a hack for your life; if you walk in love, you would constantly walk in righteousness. No wonder when the Holy Ghost came to dwell in you, what he poured to the overflow in your heart was love:
“And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” Romans 5:5
